Punjab Police suspended Barnala DSP Satvir Singh over alleged lathicharge on striking sanitation workers on July 22, 2026.
The suspension was based on a report by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Patiala range, Kuldeep Singh Chahal.
Satvir Singh was attached to the 4th Commando Battalion at SAS Nagar under Rule 4(1)(a) of the Punjab Police (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1970.
The clash injured 22 people, including 18 sanitation workers and four police personnel.
Sanitation workers demand regularisation of services and an FIR under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
